i had to snap some pictures of the fabulous yarn purchased at the Agricultural Society Fair yesterday. our yarn bounty included two skeins of wheat and one skein of natural from the Biltmore Wool Barn. the wheat yarn is 80% alpaca and 20% merino wool and the natural yarn is 10% Silk, 25% merino wool and 65% alpaca. I had a fantastic trip to Martha’s Vineyard this year.
i was in West Tisbury this afternoon for the first day of the Agricultural Society Fair. i could not pass up an opportunity to eat fried dough, watch an ox pull competition and view abnormally large tomatoes. it was a pleasant surprise to see an entire tent dedicated to local yarn. in addition to fantastic yarn, there were cute animals, spinners and even wool dyeing demonstrations under the tent. after our little shopping spree, i got down to business (drinking lemonade and eating fried dough). bliss.
today was my lucky day. i was driving through Chilmark and stumbled upon the Allen Farm Sheep & Wool Co. what a fantastic find! the farm was established in 1762. for the past 25 years, they have had a shop on the property. i bought three 200g skeins of 100% un-dyed natural worsted weight wool for $12 each!! love it! it is just a hop skip and jump from where the first family is staying on the Vineyard for the next two weeks. snapped some super cute pictures of the bounty and the sheep that made it possible.
left for the Vineyard on Sunday. brought a knitting project on the trip. it is soon to be a bright yellow circular cushion for our couch. the yarn: rowan lenpur linen. unfortunately, forgot 4 mm needles. decided to go ahead and use my 3.5 mm needles. fingers crossed.
there is nothing like sitting in the backyard knitting on a summers day.
